Character Bust

Students are now ready to tackle what can be one of the most difficult subject in sculpture: facial features. Students have had practice sculpting in several previous projects, have experience working in both soft and hard slab, and have mastery joining both plastic and leather hard clay.
In this project, students learn average human facial proportions. Students will also learn more advanced techniques for sculpting eyes, noses and mouths. The sculpt can be of an "average" human, a specific portrait, a animal, or any other creature. Students move onto mixing their own glazes from scratch after this project and some choose to finish their portrait with one of the glazes they create.
